I hope you’re having a truly positive and empowered day! Today I want to talk about the topic of self-care. You may or may not have heard this term before, but either way it’s something you should totally be aware of and get involved with.

Self-care is anything you do for yourself to take care of your body, your mind, your soul and your well-being. It’s pretty much care for you, provided by you.

Now, I know what you might be thinking – ‘I don’t have time for that’ or ‘I’m okay, I don’t really need to bother with that’. But trust me, it’s so important if you want to be the best person you can be, live your best life and give your very best to the world and the people around you! We tend to run around cramming a million things into our day and looking after everyone else, making sure everyone else’s needs are meant and not worrying about ourselves or our needs. Self-care is about treating yourself as kindly as you treat others, taking the time to do things that nourish and nurture you.

If you’ve no idea where to start don’t panic. Self-care doesn’t need to be anything major, and definitely doesn’t need to cost anything if you don’t want it to. Think simple, what can you do for you today that would really make a difference to your day? Perhaps it’s putting half an hour aside to switch off your phone and listen to your favourite music. Or maybe it’s going for a walk outside on your lunch break away from the office and from other people. Whatever it is make sure you’re doing it for you – and by that I mean really for you. So not going for that walk because then you can pop into town and pick up those razors your husband needs, or that light bulb for the living room that blew last week. But rather just going for that walk because it clears your head and gives you 30 minutes of peace and fresh air – you see what I’m saying?

Here is a list of ideas to help you out if you’re struggling to get started.

  • Call a friend
  • Practice breathing in and out deeply for 10 minutes.
  • Take a nap.
  • Take a warm bath/shower.
  • Journal about your ideal day (I’ve written a whole blog post on the journaling here if you want to find out more).
  • Read a chapter of a book or a magazine.
  • Buy yourself a little something—some flowers or a candle to enjoy.
  • Make the time to try something new like pottery, learning a language, a dance class, scrap booking.

I hope you find this list useful, the possibilities and things you can do for yourself are truly endless. Make the time to look after you and everything else thrive.
